Another dear friend and longtime member of S D Woodcarvers, Inc. has passed away. As a former machinist at the John Morell Co. his attention to detail and precision in wood carving could not be beat. His inspiration to us all will remain in our memory for a long time. May he rest in peace!

A Look Back in Time
Remember the March project for 2010? It was called a Leprechaun String Puzzle. The figure was carved into a 3”x 3 ½” cutout from 3/8” basswood. The gold painted coins glued into the recessed top of the pot could have been sliced from a ¼“ dowel or popped out of heavy tag board with a paper hole punch. Once it was all carved, painted and assembled, the trick was to get the shamrock and pot of gold on the same sting loop. This usually required a visit to You-Tube and a search for “string puzzle solutions”.
