2012 Sioux Empire Woodcarving Exposition

This year three additional days have been added to the schedule for the 79th Annual Sioux Empire Fair.  The traditional six-day fair, starting each year during the 2nd week of August will now begin on Saturday, Aug. 4th, and run all the next week through Sunday, Aug. 12th .

Volunteers have already started signing up for security shifts and for Artist of the Day, but having someone at the exhibit for all those extra time slots will be difficult.  If you would like to sign up for a security shift or Artist of the Day,  email: stumpkicker@hotmail.com   or phone: 605-359-7067.

Last Meeting

The regular Third Saturday Meeting of the S D Woodcarvers, Inc. was held  May 19th at the Center for Active Generations.  A continuation of the chip carving project from last month explored the art of "gouge chip carving".  Samples of this type of chip carving can be found at http://www.gougechipcarving.com/

Attendance was lower than usual, so a review of gouge chip carving is planned for the June meeting.

New Officers Elected at Annual Meeting

There was a good turn out of members for the 2012 Annual Meeting of S D Woodcarvers, Inc.--enough at least to elect some new officers. After serving a second three-year term as President (and coffee maker), Dick Hansen has been given a well deserved reprieve from his official duties. Bill Dickey, Sr. will now take over that important position.

Bill's son, Gene, will continue to prove his excellent work as Secretary and publisher of the Newsletter, and Derek Boekoff will once again serve as Vice President.

The important office of Treasurer, which has been diligently maintained since 2007 by Bill Huntimer, will now be trusted to Arne Bortnem.

Other business of the meeting included a decision to have third Saturday meetings at the Sioux Falls Center for Active Generations.
